Medical University of Vienna

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Division of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine is part of the Medical University of Vienna (MUW). The Research Laboratory of the Division of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine is well equipped for basic research, fundamental cell biology and molecular biology. The research covers e.g. menopausal specific research and research on reproductive medicine. It has also specialized in the isolation and characterisation of cells from obstetrical sources, like human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and erythroid progenitors from umbilical cord blood. Close collaborations with the Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) and the Vienna Biocenter.
Andrea Kolbus
Dr. Andrea Kolbus obtained her PhD in Biology from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) and holds now a position as Universitaetsassistentin at the Medical University of Vienna, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Division of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine. She started her studies on cellular signal transduction and investigated the role of the transcription factor c-jun during proliferation and in response to stress stimuli. She was Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. Dr. Hartmut Beug at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), Vienna, where she started to get her expertise in the erythroid cell system. She used erythroid cells from different mouse models. Her interest is directed towards signalling of erythroid cells and especially in the erythroid differentiation.
